Why Republic Day celebrated only on 26 January?
The Constitution of India was prepared by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949 and the Indian Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950. The date of 26 January was chosen because on 31 December 1929, the Congress Session began on the banks of the Ravi River. It was presided over by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. In this session, on 26 January 1930, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tricolor in the Congress session and gave the slogan of complete independence or complete independence… Nehru declared this date as the day of independence, from then till 1947, Independence Day started being celebrated on 26 January, but when the country became independent on 15 August 1947, India got a new date of independence. But the Congress leaders considered it important to remember the date of 26 January. That is why this date started being celebrated as Republic Day.
How was the Constitution of India made?
India became independent on 15 August 1947 and after independence, the Constituent Assembly was formed. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was made the chairman of this Constituent Assembly. Under the chairmanship of Baba Saheb, the world’s largest written constitution was prepared in about two years, 11 months and 18 days. This constitution was implemented on 26 January 1950, since then this day is celebrated as Republic Day. There are two written copies of the Indian Constitution, one in Hindi and one in English. These copies are kept in a helium-filled case in the Parliament.
The Constitution is the lighthouse that brings us out of the darkness of democracy and into the light of freedom. It is the shield that protects every citizen from the arrows of discrimination and injustice. It is the support that binds crores of Indians together, irrespective of their religion, caste or language. India gained independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947, but there was no democracy in India till then. The Indian Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950, establishing the country as a constitutional republic. On this day, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as the first President of the Republic of India.
